A plain cardigan knitted at a fine gauge in a smooth stocking stitch, with no pattern so the shape and the finish carry it. The neckline drops into a deep V that reaches to meet the top button, opening the chest and leaving room for a collar underneath. A full length placket runs from the neckline to the hem with flat buttons set evenly along it, and the placket edge is knitted firm so it does not roll. The cuffs and hem are worked in a close rib that grips lightly at the wrist and the hip while the body between them stays soft and easy through the waist.
